Golf Course Trails

We'll be doing some work over the next few weeks on the groundwater Mamquam Golf Course channels as they have gone virtually completely dry from top to bottom. As such, by the end of next week (August 13 or so) many of the trails along these channels will be restricted to public use.

Chainsaw Ban

I have been advised that there are a few blow downs from the last storm. We are currently in an the extreme fire rating chainsaw use in the forest is not permitted. Please pass this onto any of your members and when the fire rating has come down I will let you know when it is safe again to operate machine tools in the woods.

STORMY Volley Call

STORMY needs enthusiastic volunteers to ensure a successful race day experience. STORMY is a trail running race that follows the Test of Metal course and features a 100 Mile Ultramarathon (Course 2X), 50 Mile Ultramarathon and Team Relay.

Mountain Bike Race Debut at Whistler Olympic Park

Whistler, BC. Team Whistler Cycling has partnered with Whistler Olympic Park to host the first Mountain Bike race at the site of the 2010 Nordic skiing events on Sunday, July 19th. Taking advantage of the newly constructed ski trails as a base for course design, the crew at the Park and a number of trained volunteers have added large sections of single track to make for a race course to be remembered.

SQUAMISH RACE IS READY TO GO

One of the most popular races in Squamish BC will return on July 25th this year. The 7th annual Squamish GearJammer, presented by G. Stewart Kerr Ltd., has announced that race registration is open at www.gearjammer.ca, and that racecourse preparation is well under way.

2009 Team Squamish Announced

“I couldn't be more excited about the team this year,” said Kindree. “We have a slightly smaller roster than 2008 allowing us some extra freedom. We can offer more personal attention to the athletes and it has allowed the inclusion of some very keen, but less experienced younger riders. It is impressive to note that most of the team has competed at a provincial level, several are have been selected to the BC Team and several will be attending the National Championships in July.  Squamish should be very proud to have so many committed young athletes.”

Corridor Trail Segment One Construction to begin

It is with great pleasure that I am announcing that we are going to be underway with the start of construction of the Corridor Trail Segment One within the week. As you maybe aware the Corridor Trail will run from the Stawamus Chief Apron Parking Lot, continuing North to Depot Road which is approximately nine kilometres. This first Segment is from the Squamish Adventure Centre to Mamquam Road which is approximately three kilometres.

The Partnership Spirit For B.C. Trails

British Columbia has undertaken a multi-phase approach to developing a
trails strategy for the province. The first phase involved extensive research into
successful models from other jurisdictions as well as analysis of the results of a

10-point Trails Checklist

A checklist style survey was sent out by the Squamish Trails Society to find out each Municipal election candidate's position on the importance of trails and commuter lanes in Squamish.
