SORCA is excited to share that we’ve hired a new Lead Builder/Trails Coordinator to manage our Trail Crew year round and provide general oversight for all things trail maintenance. We were thrilled to have a long-time Squamish trail-building volunteer apply, and so with that, please join us in welcoming David Reid to the team!
Who is David Reid you ask, and why should we trust him with our trails?
Here is what Dave has to say:
I have been a resident of the Sea to Sky region since 1995. I permanently moved to Squamish in 2006. I plan to never leave. I have been building trails for 12 years within Squamish. I guess my signature style would be granite slabs.
After a toonie, I was talking to Gary McFarlane and I told him I loved his trails, and wanted to give back to the community. He stated in a matter of fact way, “go build trails and volunteer, don’t be a slacker”. So I did.
I am a firm believer that when building trails, the trail decides where it wants to go. Gary Mcfarlane taught me this. There have been a few instances where I fought the trail, only to later give up and move it to where it wanted to go. I also have a preference for reroutes, if it avoids drainage problems, or deep ruts.
I have been asked what my favourite type of trail is. My answer… I love trails with personality that make me giggle.
I believe in volunteers, so if you have the time, or want to learn about trail building please come join us in the woods. I look forward to working with all volunteer builders (new and old).
I will provide monthly updates on what the trail crew has been working on, and where to find them.
Please feel free to connect with me about concerns, desires, and recommendations.
