Tour de Squamish – SORCA’s 30th Anniversary Event
Tour de Squamish – A celebration of SORCA’s 30th Anniversary
On September 17th, SORCA is hosting a full day of events to celebrate its 30th Anniversary. Way back in 1992, a small group of trailblazers led by Cliff Miller realized that fat tires had a place in this community and within Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw Xay Temixw, the territory the Squamish Nation has stewarded since time immemorial. These visionaries fought hard to advocate on behalf of the sport to which their legacy is felt 30 years later. Today SORCA hosts weekly events, often eclipsing 200 riders, has a paid trail crew of 6, and works cooperatively with several exceptionally skilled contractors and volunteer trail builders from the community.
SORCA will celebrate the association’s past, current and future with a unique 3-person team relay race (‘Gearjammer’ XC, ‘JABR’ Super-D and ‘Test of Metal’ Enduro). The race will be followed by an after-party whereby in addition to raising a glass to our 30th, we will do our best to harness SORCA’s adventurous past through written and recorded storytelling.
There are three ways to take part in this special celebration. Participate by recruiting two friends to form your dream team and register (opening July 27th). Volunteer by registering for the event here. Contribute by sharing any SORCA or generic Squamish mountain biking images circa the 1990s or the 2000s to vince@sorca.ca.
