nominee bios

Treasurer

  • I have over 30 years of experience in finance and accounting. Currently, I am the Chief Financial Officer for Visit Seattle, a non-profit destination marketing organization. My LinkedIn profile shows my work history - https://www.linkedin.com/in/scott-bly-b0ba2b/. My volunteer experiences include SORCA Socials, fundraising drives at KEXP, treasurer of Dirtworld.com and raising/removing flags for holidays/special events in my neighbourhood. I believe my experiences will enable me to successfully build on Kelsey Roberts' excellent work. Although I do not currently live in Squamish, I consider it home and would be honoured to give back to an organization and community that I love!

Fun Fact — I fulfilled a dream by completing the 2024 BC Bike Race.

  • I have lived and worked in Squamish since 2017 and am a designated accountant with over 20 years of experience in finance and accounting, including senior roles in the non-profit sector. Beyond my professional career, I have a long track record of volunteering at a senior level within various non-profits. I have served on the finance committee for Doctors Without Borders, as Treasurer for a 90-unit strata complex, and as a Board Member for the Squamish Food Bank. As an avid trail runner and mountain biker, I’m excited to bring my expertise and dedication to SORCA as Treasurer. My goal is to ensure a strong financial foundation to support the trails and biking community that we all love.

  • I am CPA and a manager at an accounting firm in North Vancouver and I have been living in Squamish for over a year now. I started my career off in Ontario auditing various entities like not for profits, municipalities etc. I moved to B.C 7 years ago and since then I have been mainly working in Tax, preparing financial statements, tax returns, tax planning and estate planning to many small business owners. Ever since moving here I have been amazed at everything Squamish has to offer especially the biking trails. I would love to be able to use my accounting and financial knowledge to give back and help an amazing organization.

Fun fact — I am a Boston Terrier mom!

director of advocacy

  • I have been an advocacy volunteer with SORCA since 2016 and served a 2 year stint on the board from 2019-2020. Throughout I have been supporting the President, Director of Advocacy and Executive Director on issues related to regional and site specific planning, government relations, collaboration with other use groups and private landowners and most gratifyingly, SORCA's relationship with Squamish Nation.

At this juncture I feel that in addition to my day to day advocacy activities that I may be able to again make a meaningful contribution to policy and planning at the Board level.

  • I moved to Squamish 18 months ago from Vancouver to be closer to the mountains and indulge my passion for mountain biking. I’ve been hooked ever since my first ride down a gnarly dusty single-track in Fernie, four years ago. There is nothing better than ripping down fast, techy single track, falling into that flow state that we all know and love.

The mountain biking community in Squamish has always been so welcoming and supportive, especially to a relative newcomer. This year, I volunteered as a race marshal for a few races with my new pup (future trail dog coming in hot) and truly enjoyed being part of the SORCA spirit. Whether it’s chatting on the ride up to a classic Half Nelson rip or cheering people on at one of SORCA’s Cincos, you always feel like this community has your back. The level of stoke is high, and now, if you’ll have me, I want to give back to this awesome community.

I’m currently the Director of Policy and Programs at a national non-profit, focusing on environmental policy in the recycling industry. For the past 12 years, I’ve been diving into policy and advocacy issues, spending the last 5 years in B.C. and the previous 8 years across Europe and the UK. My career has taken me through valuable experiences working with First Nations, municipalities, and various levels of government, along with non-for-profit and private companies in Canada. I believe effective advocacy hinges on collaboration and understanding, taking the time to listen to all parties involved.

I've also developed province-wide plans to turn policies into real-life actions, seeing firsthand the impact of good policy and advocacy. I’m the “policy guy” who read SORCA’s bylaws with enthusiasm while my partner rolled her eyes... I’m dedicated to understanding how policies affect organizations and I’d love to bring this expertise to SORCA and our awesome mountain biking community.

Squamish is growing rapidly, with new homes popping up everywhere and our trails attracting newcomers (me) and visitors from around the world. Advocacy is crucial to protect this amazing place we call home and ensure access to our world-class trail network.

With SORCA’s next 5-year strategic plan due in 2025, I’m excited to contribute and advocate for continued access to the mountain biking trails we love. I’m also keen to build on SORCA’s excellent work in establishing effective relationships with the Squamish Nation. As the original stewards of this land, their partnership is essential to SORCA’s mission.

Stoked to dig in and get started (pun intended)

Fun Fact. - I'm also training for a ultra-marathon at the moment, so i'm getting a good view of the trail network from both a Mountain Biker's and Trail Runner's perspective.

  • Over the past two years, I have enjoyed serving on the board of directors for SORCA, where I had the opportunity to lead an economic and social impact study of mountain biking in Squamish. The study showed me that mountain biking is apart of this town in so many ways from physical and mental health, youth programming, reconciliation, job creation and of course the trails that get people on their bikes outside. Volunteering at events throughout the summer and even participating in a race or two has shown me what an amazing community we have here through mountain biking. I look forward to continuing to advocate for mountain biking in Squamish and getting out on my bike every week to enjoy the trails.

Fun Fact - I play and teach piano in town.

  • I have enjoyed 25 years of local trail development, maintainance and trail advocacy. Previously was Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. Volunteers thousands of hours to the trail network each year. Great relationships with all of the local and provincial land managers.

Fun Fact — Love to volunteer trail build in my free time.

director at large

  • I've been on the SORCA board of directors for four years. In that time I've served as the Director of Advocacy and Government Relations and as a Director at Large. In both roles I've been heavily involved in SORCA's advocacy work, including helping to develop our MOU with the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw and advocating for our trails in relation to: the Cheekye Barrier Project, Squamish Community Forest, Ntsew̓ásus (Shannon Basin) Management Plan, Fortis Eagle Mountain Pipeline and more. In my four years with the Board, I've built strong and meaningful relationships with many community partners, land managers, landowners and the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw. Aside from advocacy work, I've contributed to SORCA's overall governance by assisting with policy development and you've probably also spotted me tucked in the forest with our timing equipment at various Cincos or helping to herd groups at a Social.

This year, I'm seeking reelection as a Director at Large with the goal of serving in one of SORCA's officer roles (President, VP), which are appointed by the Board from the pool of Directors elected by the membership. Several of our senior board members are departing this year (big ups to Kelsey, Davey and Jeff for all your amazing work!) and it seems like a natural time for me to step up with the support of the rest of our amazing board. With your vote I'll continue building on my experience and relationships and offer my leadership to help to guide this awesome organization for another two years and beyond. Thanks!

    Fun Fact

I have three brothers, all named Mike.

  • I fell in love with Squamish slab about 9 years ago. I then spent the next 5 years figuring out how to spend more time here until I could move here. I'm a physician who historically has written grants for a living so would like to use those skills to help grow the trail network that I love. I have previously lived in Calgary and have experience from a number of trail organizations in Alberta that will help me here. I have also experience with a number of not for profit organizations that will help me in this role. I would love to give back to the community that has given so much joy to me.

Fun Fact - I play the bagpipes

  • I have been on the SORCA board for the past 2 years as a Director at Large. I sat on the Membership Volunteer Fundraising Committee and Trails Committee. I enjoy volunteer trail building, facilitating events for underrepresented groups in our ridership and supporting our rad volunteers. My passion is adaptive mountain biking and advocating for an inclusive trail network we can shred together.

  • Over the past year, I’ve been volunteering with SORCA’s fundraising, volunteer, and membership committee, working closely with Ian Lowe, Executive Director, on grant applications. I’ve helped secure $69,000 in funding, which has directly supported trail development, maintenance, and other key programs, including the Squamish Nation Youth Mountain Bike Program. Through this work, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the collaboration and dedication that sustain SORCA’s operations and ensure our trails remain world-class.

Professionally, I work at a public health foundation specializing in communications and fundraising. I hold a master’s degree in Intercultural and International Communication and have extensive experience crafting proposals that drive funding success. My ability to secure resources has already proven valuable in my work with SORCA, and I’m eager to continue contributing to the organization’s growth.

As a passionate mountain biker and Squamish resident of more than five years, I’m excited to continue giving back to the trails and the community that make Squamish such an incredible place to ride and live. Joining the board would allow me to expand my contributions, support SORCA’s strategic goals, and help ensure the continued success of its trails and programs.

Fun Fact - I play and teach piano in town

  • I’ve been an active community volunteer in Squamish, contributing to SORCA dig days and fundraisers through Ridehub. I’ve served on local boards such as Squamish Tourism and the Squamish Access Society. I’ve also worked on several First Nations initiatives and advocated for responsible Crown land use and local MTB development. As the owner of MSAA and Ridehub Café, I bring extensive experience in the adventure sports space with a strong track record with key stakeholders. My strengths lie in business development, sustainability, fiscal planning, teamwork, and building consensus to drive success.

Fun Fact -I got my son into BMX and dirt jumping, but then I got hooked too. Now it’s two kids— one's a whole lot older and scared—hitting the pump track. Even bought my own dirt jumper to keep up!

  • With SORCA I've volunteered for last year's 31 trails scavenger hunt, and the SORCA DH race last October. Last year I approached SORCA about organizing an intro to MTB event for the queer community, which happened this year under the name Pedal with Pride. I think like many SORCA members, I find the community events are probably the greatest thing about being a member. I am stoked to have a chance to contribute to make events happen, and make them the best that they cam be!

Fun fact. - I can whistle inhaling, but not exhaling.

Fun Fact. - I'm also training for a ultra-marathon at the moment, so i'm getting a good view of the trail network from both a Mountain Biker's and Trail Runner's perspective.

  • My name is Adam Morrison and I have been volunteering with SORCA for the past two years, both as a race sweep and race marshal. I am excited to be taking this next step in my volunteer journey with SORCA and am grateful to be considered for a position as a Director at Large on the Board of Directors.

I have been living, working, and biking the Squamish trails for the past 5 years. My obsession for biking began when I was a teenager and I started taking my hardtail out to the shore to get beat up by the classic jank. Alas, this bike that kick-started my passion for mountain biking would be stolen and I would lose the sport for 15 years, before finding it again here in Squamish. Needless to say, the bikes are much better, the trails more varied, the bikers more organized, and I am more passionate about the sport than ever, spending 3-4 days a week biking.

I am interested in joining SORCA’s Board to support and contribute to the organization’s Trail mandate to maintain, expand and advocate for our town’s world-class mountain bike network and all its diverse users. I believe that with my knowledge and understanding of the trails coupled with my passion for the Squamish community, I will be an asset to the board.

Professionally, I am a practicing Physiotherapist in Squamish. This role involves assessing, communicating, and supporting clients to achieve their specific goals. In addition, as the acting Clinic Director I work with multiple professionals to best facilitate the success and progression of clinicians and the organization. I think that this experience has taught me the importance of listening and adapting strategies to facilitate the best individual outcome - not just a one size fit all approach. My goal as a Director at Large would be to leverage these skills and help progress SORCA's strategic plan. I would approach this work by first taking time to build relationships and learn. I believe this is an important step to better understand where I can leverage my skills and knowledge to make the greatest impact. I look forward to the prospect of committing two years to supporting SORCA and this great community.

Fun Fact — Favourite Karaoke Song: Meatloaf - I would do anything for love (but I won't do that)
